My love affair with Carl Sagan continues…

Today is the first annual Carl Sagan Day. If you’re in Davie, Florida there’s an all-day program chock full of cool stuff about Sagan and his work. For the rest of us, well, let’s just appreciate the man on what would have been his 75th birthday.

Here’s his last interview, he’s on Charlie Rose back in May of 1996. He died later that year in December.

  1. Before you took this class, Sagan was someone who I knew some stuff about, but not a lot. Back in the day I would occasionally watch his PBS programs, but was never a regular viewer. Now, I wish I had paid more attention. This was a great interview with Rose. He dies just on the cusp of the Internet explosion, but you get a sense that he knew what was about to happen to the world of communication, technology, science and religion.
My favorite line from the interview: “Faith is belief in the absence of evidence. Believing when there is no evidence is a mistake.”
